The interview didn’t go the way everyone suggested it would. No questions in the STAR format at all. Instead they only wanted to hear me describe how I would troubleshoot ICP-MS problems and if I can describe quality control protocols—that sort of thing.

Not what I have done, but do I already know how to do what they need done?

I was honest about what I don’t know, what I do, and made it clear I love to learn and learn quickly. But there was a bit of “studied for the wrong test” feeling.

They let me know that if they decide to go forward with me there will be a “cultural fit” interview later, with more folk, which I am guessing will be a bit more standard interview format. I still have no idea if I actually want the job, but I also suppose I don’t need to decide that until and unless I get called to another interview.

In the meantime Keldor and I will go look at a house on Monday that is described as a renovation project. If it looks like a project we can enjoy doing ourselves then we may do that and sell at a profit. However,  one can’t do both. It is either work the startup/gigafactory job, or renovate a house.  So it will be interesting to see which path I wind up with
