farewell to a fabulous intern
Today was the last official day on the job for Bruno, our beloved intern who has worked with us all summer, and been so amazingly helpful. In addition to huge contributions to the data mapping and reconciliation needed for the data set we are working on, he has also developed a cool web page to showcase some stories from our database.
a dinner party
To celebrate his accomplishments a bunch of us went out to dinner with him, and a couple of us brought our partners. It was a lovely evening.
Keldor had a slow day at work, so he made it to Umeå early enough to park the car on campus, and then walk down the hill with us to the city center, where we got a table for 8 at a place called Guilty Pleasure. We started walking at 16:15, were at the restaurant and then had food in front of us at 17:45, and sat and chatted till 19:45.
Off to a concert
Then we changed into our pirate costumes and said goodnight to my colleagues, and walked a couple of blocks to the concert venu, joining the queue just before the doors opened at 20:00.
The venu has a central dance floor in front of the stage, and a balcony around the room. So we went upstairs to enjoy the view, and settled onto the sofa in the corner overlooking the side of stage to wait for the show.
Eventually, I realised we weren’t going to get home until after midnight, so I got out my phone and played a quick four minutes session of chair yoga and stretched a bit. That ended just as the pirates came out on stage, so the tim7ng was perfect.
From our vantage point, we soon spotted friends in the crowd, right up front by the stage. Geson, Gerdis, Sharon, och Mikael. They appeared to have fun there, I was quite content to be up in the balcony, with a little more room to dance, and a nice view of the crowd.

a nice end to the evening
After the show we found our friends, chatted briefly, and then set off to get the car.
The walk back to campus was pretty, we took the path by the river, getting to my office to pick up my backpack, computer, etc and use the loo just before midnight.
The drive home was long enough to get the day (and yesterday) mostly written up (though the many typoes, especially during the bumpy part of the road construction needed to be cleaned up the next morning), and we arrived at 01:09.
We unloaded the car, gave the cats treats, I did a quick yoga, enjoyed a hot shower, and was in bed by 01:44. It was a lovely day.
