My parents met in Washington DC, where mom, Norma Jean Tyyska, born 1940-12-19, had lived for six years, working as a secretary at the Pentagon. They decided to get married when my dad, Raymond Leon Chmielowski, usually called Ski, born 1932-12-16 got his orders to transfer to Lackland Air Force Base, so mom joined him. They were married in February of 1966, and I was born 1966-12-10.

Shortly after they knew that I was on the way dad got new orders, sending him to Thailand for a Temporary Duty Year (TDY), without his family. One of his friends, Tom Malloy, also got sent TDY that year, so Tom’s wife, Liz, and her three kids, Julie, Beth, and Ray and my mom decided to live together, in a house on Stirrup Cir road in San Antonio for that year, as it would be easier on everyone to have two adults in the house with the kids. After I was born we stayed with Liz and her kids till February, and then mom took me home to Ewen, Michigan.
