I woke at 03:14 and got up and started loading the car. With the addition of my Camping loo we have a box that didn’t exist last tourney season, and we are bringing pavilions for others in the camp, so even though we sent some stuff in Þórólfr’s trailer, it was necessary to do some careful tetris to get the boxes arranged under the bed, with room behind them for most of the pavilion poles. Then I got all the tents into the car and decided I should take a nap, so I got 40 minutes more sleep snuggled up to Keldor before his alarm went off.
So we got up, and he drove to town to pick up his cousin, who is staying with the cats while we are at Double Wars, and I worked for a short while.
After they were hone I wrapped up what I was doing on the computer and started packing the ice chests, pillows, and other last minute things, while he put the table, bench, and long tent poles onto the roof rack.
We finally started driving at 13:09, about two hours later than he had hoped, and about two hours earlier than I feared (I choose not to bake the crackers I had wanted to bake, to pull this off. But I will regret that when I don’t have them on site. At least I baked oatcakes and cookies yesterday).
During the drive we reviewed a paper on Viking Swords for Complete Anchronist.
At 15:20, when we were somewhere south of Nordmaling, I posted to our group chat: “We were just passed by a guy driving well over the speed limit in order to just slip in front of us before the passing lane ended, as as we heard the “woosh” of the car’s passing we both laughed at . the “Highway to Hell” sign that covers the full width of the back window. Yup, the car went by like a bat out of hell, in a hurry to get home!” To make it even funnier, the letter part of its license plate is ONS, which stands for onsdag (Wednesday), so no wonder it drives so fast, today is Thursday, and it is late!
We stopped at the rest stop at 17:30 ish at Högakustenbrön, where I did some yoga. Then we continued south and picked up Charlotte at the big Y(https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y:et).
I took a nap for 25 minutes, and otherwise enjoyed the company, and wildlife viewing (a cute long beaked bird, a wild piglet (or as Keldor calls it, “bacon seed”) and a hare, all in fairly quick succession), getting to Keldor’s brother’s house just before midnight.
