Midnight weirdness

I went to bed just after midnight, and woke a bit after 02:00, when Keldor came in, so I got up and went to the loo and returned to bed.

I woke again at just after 03:00, when Keldor got up. It was very dark in the tent. I started to fall back asleep, but then thought I should drink some water, so I turned on the light on my phone to find my water bottle, and was surprised to find Keldor standing on my side of the bed, reaching for me.

I asked what he was doing, and he replied that he was looking for me, a d tried to crawl into bed, head towards the foot end of the bed. I pointed out he was on the wrong side of the bed, a d he said he was looking for the bed, so I told him to go around everything his own side (the headboard of the bed is up against the center pole, against which we have shelves and chests), and I shined my phone light to show him the path.

That is when I saw the large puddle of liquid on the tent floor, and more liquid flowing away from the puddle across my carpet. The one ni e wool carpet that had cone to the event in our car, and so didn’t get soaked in lamp oil in Þórólfr’s trailer on the way to the event.

Knowing there was nothing in the tent contsining liquid he could have knocked over and spilled on the floor, I asked him “did you pee in the tent?”, to which he replied “ingen aning” (No idea). Yah, I belive that part. I have no idea what he had to drink last night, nor how much, but I cannot recommend it, as it makes it possible to get lost trying to leave the tent and pee on the canvas floor.

I tried to ignore the problem and go back to sleep, the damage already being done, and still being very tired, but I was too bothered by it all, and failed to sleep. So I got back up, turning on the light to see that the liquit had now soaked into the wool carpet, so I put the terry cloth towel down over the wet spot, so I wouldn’t step on it, and went to the loo.

since I wasn’t sleeping

I decided I may as well do my yoga for the day, and see if that helped, so I went back to the tent got my phone and a sheepskin to tske to the hall, and decided that I may as well get some water bottles to refill.

As I gathered all of that Keldor got up, pulled on his sauna tunic, stumbled, barefoot, out of the tent, and started stagering towards the loo. I walked with him, and tried to steer him towards the hall, where I could put my stuff down as he used the toilet, and then help him back to camp, but he insisted going to the outhouses.

So I dropped my stuff off in the hall, and went back out on time to see hom returning, shivering. So I helped him back to bed, got him covered and put a nålbinded slipper on one of his feet (I couldn’t find the other), and pulled the still warmer than his feet hot water bottle near his feet.

The I did a half hour training, fulled my watter bortles, typed the above, and returned to bed a bit after 05:00.

after second sleep

We both woke a bit before 10:00, and I asked him how he was feeling, and he said fine. I asked if he remembered anything about last night, or more specifically this morning, and he replied “only a vauge feeling of panic”. So I told him the above story, and he replied “Jag är så ledsen” (I am so sorry).

He doesn’t remember any of that, and when asked what he had to drink, he remembers only the three beers he took with him to the sauna. He had nothing resembling a hangover this morning, and wonders if he had simply been sleep walking.

We will probably never know if he accepted something stronger than his beers, and it was drunkeness that caused the problem, or if it was sleep walking related.

But we both woke feeling great, and our camp quickly accomplished our assigned camp chores for the day. He and Alfarinn took care of replacing the marshlights, I and Þórólfr cleaned the dishwashing station by the hall, and some of the Frostheim folk (I didn’t see which ones) took care of the pots and pans dishwashing station.

afternoon

I got my massge at noon, and then went to choir practice, a little late. Today I sang with the tenors the whole time. They had gotten to Gaudete by the time I arrived, and there were only three tennors today, so I joined them, but without our strong lead it was harder, until I turned to face behind the other tenors, pointing one hearing aid outside the ring, and one towards the tennors, so they were easier to hear (and my mouth war pointed away, so that if I was wrong I wouldn’t take them with me).but then Martin, who was in armour, took a pause from pickups to come sing with us. Martin has a strong, beautiful voice, and sings tennors, so we could easily follow him, and one of the ladies who had been singing tennor only because we were so few could go back to the altos, which meant that another, who had been singing alto because they were fewer than the sopranos could also move back up to her preferred range.

After choir I stopped by the fighting, brought Keldor some snacks and drinks and chatted with a few fighters before heading to Lucie’s class on the decorations on Skolderhamn outfit. When she got to the embroidery on the legs of the trousers she explained rhat it wasn’t quite right as the yarn she used was too thick. So I asked if she had found a better yarn when she dud Keldor’s, and she had, so I fetched them for her to pass around. After the presentation she had sime yarn for thosevif us who want to, to try some of the braids. I did the 6-strand (double thread in each) three colour braid, which I have done before years ago, at the Tromsø museum, when I was there for Þhora’s lecture on her weaving of the Skjdoleham cloak fabric. I had forgotten making that, till the braid started coming together.

Bardic

Then I was starving so returned to canp to eat, tidy up, and rearrange furniture for the bardic.

By 19:00, which was the advertised start time for the bardic, we had a nice set up of benches and chairs around the double fire pits, and a few of us who live here, and a couple from Styringheim, which was enough to start the singing. I took the smaller of the two camp chainmail-wearing teddybears as the designated turn marker to pass around the circle, which worked very well.

We managed a couple of circuits around the small circle before others joined is and filled out the space. It was an amazing evening that made me very happy. We had a few people with a large repertoire to hop in when the bear-holder had a request, and most people participated.

We had lots of sing-along pieces, with enough voices to make it sound good. We had performance pieces by onevor two, we had storytelling, poetry, and even a dramatic reading of the ingredients on abpacket of tea (which was fablous). We did period songs, SCA orginals, filks, modern songs with the right feeling, nd more. We sang in at least seven languages over the course of the evening, and I had so much fun that I didn’t want to leave for the loo, putting it off longer than was comfortable, so I only had to leave twice. Once in the middle of the evening, and again sometime after 01:00, when the circle had shrunk to only eight of us. While I was gone Felicitas recited a poem thst was so funny it broke Torunn to the piing where whe packed away her songbooks and when the bear returned to her she said she was done. We were all feeling tired and satisfied, so we chatted a bit longer, then the guests said goodnight, and we who lived here tidied upa little, put out the lights, and spread out the coals to slowly finish burning down, and I was in bed before 02:00.
