I had a skow start tomy work day, then met with Bruno to discuss what else needs be done before we ingest the Struke data, and he showed me his Visual Studio Code set up he uses to compare the Strucke input data with SEAD. My that is fast! It turns out that 42 of the more than 6000 sites we have a lämningnummer for are already in SEAD, and more than 100 of those we have an RAÄ nummer for. These will need to be assigned to the site id that is already in SEAD, the others will need new site_id numbers. I could have done this check myself by downloading the joined lists of lämningnummer and RAÄ nummer from SEAD, but this is much faster.

We also discussed Bruno’s Buried Stories project in progress, which offers “Thousands of years of dirt, bones, and pollen — told as stories”. He has taken the SEAD database and also accesses publically available databases of things like species info to display photos of a selected species, as the map shows where it has been found in excavations, and when in time those layers were buried.

After that meeting I was feeling inspired to work, but only managed till I got a call from Keldor, in the depths of despair, because the car he bought yesterday had just died.

He was about 5 km away, on the other side of the highway, which told me that he must have been having a good day until then, as he wouldn’t have come that way if he hadn’t have been picking mushrooms.

When I arrived we jump started the car and it started right up so the likely culprit was the alternator not charging the battery.

He drove first, and I followed after, and that jump gave him enough power to make it home before the battery went flat again. So, clearly, the car isn’t dead, just in need of some maintenance.

This didn’t help his mood any, as this is the second new car in a row to die directly after purchase, and this one only 24 hours after.

He made it clear he wasn’t getting in another car today, so I consultad with Tristyn, who was in the train on his way here, and we decided he would take the bus here from Umeå, and I would spend the evening trying to make up some work hours I was behind on.

I did, and Keldor went to the basement and used his Emcostar to plane some wood from which he plans to make a door for the bathroom in the cellar. (He also reports that the blade for the band saw part of that machine broke, which did not improve his mood any, especially as it is a different length blade to those we have on hand for the other band saw).

I put work down at 20:40, which gave me time for yoga before I went to get Tristyn, and then we all stayed up talking till after midnight.
