Woke at 06:35 with the memory that I had seen yesterday a “you can now check in” notification for today’s flight, but hadn’t done it at the time, so I decided to do that straight away this morning before getting up.

But then was worried, as it checked us only through to Stockholm/Arlanda tonight, and I didn’t see our flight to Skellefteå tomorrow morning. I looked at the app, didn’t see it. Saw the Strawberry Raid flight next month, and today’s flight, but not tomorrow’s. So I checked email, eventuality found the booking pdf that confirmed my memory that yes, both today’s and tomorrow’s flights share the same booking code. Went back to the app, and this time noticed that one can get to the next flight in a set by clicking on the small print series of text codes above the details for the selected flight, and the check in for the next flight doesn’t open for an hour. Oops. It would have made sense to check in for both at once.

Luckily, once at the airport, around 13:00, I just used the terminsl to checked our luggage all the way home, and Keldor booked us a hotel room in Stockholm for tonight.

Then we found a place to charge my phone, and Tyndall and Ellise von Styra joined us. My shoulders were tight, so I excused my self to pay for a 20 miuute massage, which was worth every minute. That guy really knows how to get all the pressure points, and even adjusted my back. Worth every penny. When I returned singing their praises Ellisa also got a massage.

Then we went upstairs found some comfy chairs and settled in for hours of chatting before first Tyndall’s flight time, and then Ellisa’s. We each of us in turn got ice cream, because a flight is as good as a roadtrip.

The flight started normally, but less than an hour into a 1.5 hour flight the captain called for a cabin crew person to come to the cockpit, after which the crew quit serving coffee, the seatbelt sign was lit, and we were instructed to prepare for landing.

A short time later the captain explained that there had been a smell of electrical smoke in the cockpit, which had already dissapated, but saftey requires that instead of proceeding to Stockholm we will be landing in Copenhagen so the plane can be inspected.

This prompted a nice conversation with the Masters student sitting next to us, who had already had a very long day as their morning flight to Stockholm had bern cancelled and they were rerouted via two other airports to get to the flight that didn’t make it to Stockholm. The poor thing has an 08:00 Monday class, and a 10:00 Monday class which is mandatory.

When they asked where we had been and heard Medieval, they waxed enthusiastic about a Medieval fair at a German castle that they enjoy. So of course, we mention the SCA and that there is a group in Stockholm.

Our landing was smooth and gentle, but was nonetheless greeted with a variety of emergency vehicles, who followed us to a parking space, well away from the terminal. Then we were requested to stay in our seats while some firemen investigated the plane.

Then they announced that since we are grounded, and they don’t have more planes available tonight they will find us hotels in Copenhagen, and rebook us in the morning. Please remain seated while they figure out which hotels, and how we will get to them.

Eventually, they announced that we would get a replacement plane at 08:020, and sent us three buses to take us to the terminal and told us to go directly to the transit center to get vouchers for hotels, taxi to and from, and our new boarding passes.

We did this, and had another pleasant conversation with Alexander, who lives in Jämtland, but grew up in the states, has Canadian and German passports, and lived 20 years in London before heading north. In that conversation the fact that there will be a Renaissance Fair in Storuman this summer came up, and Alexander thought it sounded like a great place to take sons, so we may meet again.

We got our boarding pass for the rescheduled flight and the vouchers for hotel and taxi, picked up our luggage, and got in line for the cab just before midnight.
