A list of mending projects that aren’t getting their own notes.

  • add an entry for the reengarda banners pole channel done in Ireland, and the one done on the ride to Double Wars
  • is there an entry for our silk banners, which got their channels the week before Double Wars?

blue-maroon long Merino cardigan

  • On 2026-09-07 I decided to start the project, and cut the sleeves off and started sewing
  • On 2026-08-22 the shopping gods decided I needed clothes. Two of the shirts I bought were Merino wool, one navy blue, and the other dark maroon. They are both pull over sweaters, and I prefer cardigans, preferably long. The colours also look amazing together
  • make a paper pattern of the pieces as they are 2026-08-22.
  • cut them up and rearrange them to see if my idea even works. (It does)
  • cut off both sleeves from both shirts
  • cut off the cuffs and set them aside
  • open up the seams
  • find an appropriate thread to sew it with (a brown weaving wool thick enough to do a good osen stitch, but thin enough to glide easily )
  • sew one red sleeve to one blue sleeve, lining up what had been the cuffs to make the new shoulder to make a big angel wing sort of sleeve 2026-09-08
  • repeat with the other two sleeves, with the opposite colour in front
  • cut the hems off of both sweaters
  • cut off the top left front half of one sweater and the top right half of the other
  • do the same with the opposite back quadrants
  • us the cuffs to line the front center edges
  • extend each above mentioned quadrant with chunks cut from the opposite colour pieces.
  • use the bits that are left to make gores for the skirt part and underarm gores

2026-08-25 purple t-shirt alteration

  • I had bought a long purple t-shirt on Saturday, which fit well, save for two flaws—the super short sleeves were enough to hinder raising my arms overhead, and the scoop neckline was lower than I wanted. So I cut off the sleeves and used the fabric to do an overlapped neckline extension, and the result is much more comfortable. Didn’t take mre than an hour or so to accomplish.

2026-07-18

Replaced the phone pocket on my rainbow phone belt, making a much better extra pocket for my passport this time.

2026-06-21 blue t-shirt

I bought a robin’s egg blue t-shirt at a second had store in 2018 while in Durham, thinking one paöe coloured shirt would be smart to have in hot, sunny, weather. And then almost never wore it, as it was too tight on my hips and the sleeves felt funny.
Since we planned to be outside today, and it was sunny, it felt like a good time to solve that. I cut off the sleeves, cut them into triangles, opened the side seams ay the hips, inserted the triangles, and suddenly I have a loose, comfy shirt for sunny days.

2026-05-20 first day Ireland visit

Mended my Blue thick short nålbinded socks. I had sewed the toe shut, rather than spiraling from the toe, and that seam failed. Since I was out of the blue yarn, I used some black and added one more row to that toe and then sewed it shut.

  • make them a card if they haven’t one

2026-05-19 travel prep

While packing for the trip I took in the waist of the jeans I bought on the way home from Double Wars

Reengardas silk banner edging

Two lovely silk banners someone else painted, to which I started adding black silk channels to on 2026-05-02. I finished the first on the drive to Double Wars 2026-05-07, and then realised that I had forgotten to pack the black silk strips to sew to the second banner, so only one of them flew at Double Wars.
I did pack them for the next trip, and started attaching the strip durring the 2026-05-20 first day Ireland visit.

2026-04-18 games night

  • fixed the fraying neckline on my loose white linen undertunic by adding an extra layer of scrap linen

nålbinding new cuffs for sweater

started 2026-02-28, more progress 2026-03-03 (finished the second cuff)
To fix the worn sleeve cuffs on my blue sweater, 3 nålbindning stitches to one cuff rib. I am using the Finnish stitch varient wirh only two loops on the thumb.

2026-02-18 darning socks

  • during our morning phone call I darned a large hole in the right heel of a pair of grey wool five-toed socks with dome beige yarn. Then I also did the smaller hole in the big toe, and added some reinforcement in thining areas of the next toe and the ball of the foot.
  • This wasn’t enough time to finish eall of the reinforcement this foot should have, and the other foot also needs mending, so hopefully there will be mending time tomorrow.

2025-12-28 mending

  • during my morning sisters call I removed the old, much too small pockets from my blue cotton skirt and started putting in larger ones. Worked on them off amd in all day. Finished insetting them in the evening.
  • I still need to replace the lining on the waistline of that skirt.

2025-12-20 mending

  • I took in the shoulders of my old black cotton knit dress so the scoop neck sits in a bit better, fixed the bit of hem that had opened up, and darned a variety of small holes.
