morning training
I got eight hours of sleep, for a change. I would have liked even more, but thought I should get up and do some pilates, so my hips don’t hurt later today, and took time to first update my logs for yesterday.
The others got up as I was finishing my pilates, and Keldor and I did some acroyoga after breakfast and before we packed up to head out for the day.
shopping
Keldor, Kallle, and I picked up Bryan, and we started towards town. Bryan had hoped to check out some second hand stores, to see if he could find something cool for his house. So we checked out both of the semi permanant garage sales right on the highway (Keldor köpte en bok om Umeå stads historia från 1500-talet tills 1888 på första loppisen) before heading to Abbes second hand store on this end of the city, where Bryan bought a handful of the Swedish version of his favourite comic books, dirt cheap (Kalle looked them up on line, and they would have all sold for much more on the comic marlet, especially issue number 2, which isn’t even for sale right now), and Kalle picked up some feast gear.
After a brief stop at Jacks, the Asian food and stuff inport store next door (where I bought some roadted black sesame seeds, some 7-spice chili powder, and some roasted broadbeand) We continued on.
all the clothes
The final second had shopping stop of the day was PMU, on the other dide of the city. I rarely look at clothes while shopping, but Kalle slowed down to see if he could find some trousers, as he’s lost enough weight that his are too loose, so I did too, and saw a long purple t-shirt in the woman’s section that seemed comfortable. Followed by a purple cotton long sleeved zippered hoodie. Then I looked at the men’s lonh sleeved shirts, and found a 100% Merino wool sweater in my favourite shade of midnight blue, and another in my favourite shade of maroon. (Then I decided not to get two two other maroon Merino wool sweaters in slighly different shades, just a little more on the brown side, I also didn’t buy the blue-black new wool sweater in a similar weight)
At that point Gilbert joined us. He saw my pile of shirts, and commented that he never bothers looking for clothes second had, as they never have his size. So I turned around, grabbed the large brown 100% cotton sweater handing there, held it up to him, and said “try this”. It fit, if a little snugly, and the colour looks good on him. Since he is actively loosing weight, he decided to get it, by the time it is cold enough to want a cotton sweater it should be more comfortable.
At that point, I thought I should stop finding clothes for me, but I looked at the men’s dress shirts anyway, and saw a delicious cotton blue-black shot fabric that I couldn’t resist (though I hate the lime green buttons and buttonhole stitching, those will have to go, if I don’t simply use the shirt as fabric).
Then a plain black t-shirt leapt into the growing collection in my arms, and it was getting heavy, so I joined the boys in the café for a bit. Then I left my shirts with them, crossed the store to head to the loo, and passed a mannequin wearing a 100% linen dress shirt that looked like itvhad been tailoredfor me, so on my way back from the loo, I took it off the mannequin, tried it on, put my hands in those deep pockets, and fell in love, again.
Total dammages for the day: 773 kr for two t-shirts, two long sleeved Merino wool sweaters, one dress shirt, one cotton hoddie jacket, and one linen suit jacket. Most of these items would have cost more that that new.
an attempt at fixing my helm
After shopping we went to the workshop, where Kalle made progress on his armour, Gilbert worked on something, Bryan relaxed, and Keldor and I looked at My new helmet and gorget in progress.
As Keldor had put a lot of time into making the decorative grill on that helmet when he made it a couple of years ago, we wanted to see if we could re-use that bit for the modified version inspired by Helga’s sports helm.
At first, it looked like if we cut it down to more of a triangle over the face it would work. Keldor did the initial cuts, and we tried tacking it back to the helm top, and put it on me, but it was clear thst it would need to be an even smaller triangle, so he marked the lines of what needs to go, and gave me the angle grinder to grind away the parts we don’t need.
At first I was a bit scared, as I know angle grinders can be dangerous, and I haven’t really used them before. But soon I was just enjoying it. It was fun to see the metal dissappear, and mske the edges nice and smooth.

While I did that Keldor checked something on the car, and had coffee with Bryan (and ate the lunch he’d left in the fridge at work the other day, and then spent the rest of the week at home).
When I was done Keldor welded the other two attachment points of the grill to the helm top, but that change effected how the grill sits on the helmet, so now the point was in contact with the point of my chin.
This wouldn’t be safe, so Keldor took over the angle grinder, and tried taking away even more, but soon it was clear that the curve of the grill is simply wrong for the new planned helm style, and there was nothing to be done about it. (I asked, onr can’t just warm and dish a grill assembled of weled bits.)
So we sadly cut off the grill and put it into the scrap metal bin. We will try making a cardboard template before trying again.
comfort clothing
When Keldor and I stopped at the Second Hand store in Robertsfors on Thursday, we had found a onesie with an unusally long body and short arms and legs, so, of course, we bought it for Þórólfr, who has just those proportions.
So we brought it to gaming and gave it to him, where it fit perfectly:

gaming night
We first did food, and after everone was fed we played Albion Saves Royalty and I msde progress on my New winter coat. Keldor won the game, but ww all won good company with friends, and it was a delightful end to a fun day.
