early morning and packing up

Woke just before 07:00 and moved my car from the parking area to behind the stage, so that it will be easy yo put things in it now an then as we get ready to leave, without disrupting the market, which is still on today, until 14:00. We have no further scheduled obligations for the event, and the prediction is for rain around lunch, so we would like to have the tent down before it gets wet again.

Then tried going back to sleep, but suddenly had a vision of things we could do with the attic bedroom, so I took the time to write them down, and jot a few notes about this weekend, finally getting up around 08:30, by which time Dis and her kids already had their tent down and their cat mostly loaded.

It was a sunny and beautiful morning, so I took the time to eat breakfast before gradually packing up stuff and moving it to the car, and chatting to the others in between.

One of the merchants came by and gave us tiny fish with butterfly wings. I put ours in Keldor’s beard, of course.

One of them checked the forecast, and there was no rain expected till 15:00, which sounded much better then the noon prediction had read before bed, so I didn’t feel much stress, and happily slowly organised my stuff, moving each chest to the car as it was ready.

Until the clouds started coming in, and it looked like it might rain sooner than we liked, at which point I increased my speed. By then most of our group had vanished, so it was just Simon and I quickly, and without as much order as I would like, emptying bedding, inner tent walls and roof, and and last few soft things from the car just as the first drops started to fall.

So the tent got a little wet before we managed to fold it, but not very wet. The sunshade, on the other hand, stayed up in the rain as we finished organising everything that had been out on the table and packing it up, so that one, and the floor, Keldor will take to work tomorrow to hang up in the workshop to dry.

the drive and adventures

After everything was packed up we hung out and chatted with people for a fair bit, and finally hit the road at 16:00. Keldor and Erin in his car, and Gilbert, Holmfrid, and I in mine. For much of the drive we kept the groups connected via a telephone call sent to the respective car stereos, so everyone could hear, which made for a fun trip. Alas, through some parts of the drive we were far enough from towns that the connection wasn’t stable, and the call dropped.

After we had been driving a bit Keldor asked if our path would go near the Mårdselefors Nature Reserve. It was more or less along the way, so we took a small detour for a bit of adventure.

The park includes trails and bridges connecting various islands in Vindel river at the largest rapids along that river, and it was a lovely detour.
