Since we had a handful of guests already last night, we sat up late talking, which translated to my disinterest in getting up this morning, but I managed to drag myself out of bed just after 08:00.

I woke up thinking about my gorget that needs dishing, and realised that I am a little hesitant to start that part of the project.

  1. Yes, I made my Bacinet helmet and other armour, and the dishing went well, but that was more than 30 years ago.
  2. I have never made a metal gorget, nor seen this style being made
  3. These pieces are stainless steel, which I have heard is harder to dish than ordinary steel.
On the other hand, when I made the pattern, I did all the dishing of the cardboard without hesitation, so clearly my arms remember something about cold metal armouring.

We had a good turnout for the day, with 13 people total.

Most if whom participated in the morning classes, which didn’t involve being in armour.

I remembered I had a camera exactly once, during the morning “this is the plan for the day”, talk before we went outside.

I joined the first class, but when it was time for the second class of the day, I chose to start working on my gorget instead, as I can’t fight in armour again till I have a helmet, and the style of helm we are doing requires the gorget to lock into place around.

When it was time for the lunch break several of us walked over to the Harvest Market, whereI bought some zucchini to put on the grill to share today, some broccoli for me tomorrow, and a couple of beautiful bunches of kale to put in the dehydrator.

Then I thought about returning to armour making while the armoured combat part of the day happened, but instead I helped Bryan start his new Viking coat.

But while they fought, Geson, who hadn’t armoured up, took some photos:

When we reached a good breaking point with that, and I went outside, the fighters were already getting out of armour and bringing out sausage, chicken, and steak for the grill.

So I sliced up the zucchini, and we all shared a meal, of which I ate only the zucchini and some cheese, plus tasting a single tiny bite of the steak.

Soon we gathered up everything and moved inside, where Ranghild made desert.

She had brought some meringue bases frozen raspberries, whipping cream, and lemon curd.

She covered one base with a blend of whipped cream and berries, and the other with a blend of whipped cream and lemon curd. They were surprisingly tasty!
