This morning I checked the Shire bank account, and the first of the grants to cover Medeltidsdagar expenses has arrived. Now we can pay one of the two big bills!
Alas, I then spent a big chunk of my work day updating the financial paperwork, taking the profit/loss statement that one of the event stewards has prepared and checking it against my records. In the process, I rearranged my spreadsheet of event expenses to put the groups in the same order as their spreadsheet, and then looked up every point of difference between their spreadsheet (which is bottom line only for each budget item), my spreadsheet (which is every transaction related to the event, grouped by budget catagory), and GnuCash, the financial accounting program we use, adjusting typos as needed, and fighting with what is in which catagory, till everything ballanced.
So now I think I know how much money the event lost, but reserve judgement till I see the remaining grants arrive, and if they are for the expected amount.
This evening’s major accomplishment is carving the upstairs doorframe to set hinges in, so now there is a door hanging between the upstairs bedroom and the cold part of the attic. The other three sides of that door frame don’t exist yet, but I am pleased nonetheless.
I also cut a chunk off of the roll of carpet that we took out of the bedroom when we moved in. That will go arround the ventilation pipe that comes up through the floor in the attic, and then goes out through the roof. In the long run I want to wrap over it with rope to make the pipe a nice cat climbing feature, but in the short term, the carpet is a good (and free) Step one.
