I managed a full eight hours of sleep! Woke from a dream about work. Keldor says that if one dreams of work, that counts as time on the clock. He can be right about that.
While waiting at the bus stop this morning a small white car drove by with an engine that was squealing unpleasantly, so I commented to Keldor that the car sounded like it didn’t want to be awake yet. He heard it clearly through the phone, and agreed. Not 30 seconds after the car was out of hearing range, the bus turned off the highway, and as it tried to stop to do the turn into the bus stop the sound from the breaks was every bit as loud as the car that had just departed. I commented (in Swedish) to the driver as I boarded “gee, I hope you don’t have to break again this trip”, and they replied “I will call in about it now”. As I got settled in upstairs, I heard the driver on the phone telling someone “just wanted to let you know…”. Keldor said that form the sound of the breaks, he didn’t expect us to get past Sävar before they would need to send a replacement bus for us. I made certain I had my seat belt on, as I know how often we have to stop, and sometimes quickly, in the construction zone.
But we made it past the construction fine, and I noticed that the driver always made a point of starting to stop well before we needed to be completely stopped. The sound was still disturbing, and I can’t imagine that the driver enjoyed today’s workday very much. But we made it all the way safely to the uni, and I made a point of thanking the driver for the accomplishment.
This morning the department sent out a note that said that since Sunday had been the International Cinnamon Roll day (Kanelbullardagen), there would be cinnamon rolls provided during fika. I forgot to head to fika during normal fika time, but remembered at around 10:45, and went up, and, sure enough, there were a few left. Yum! I suspect that, from the department perspective, the whole point was to get us to show up and interact with one another, but, oh well. Cinnamon rolls!
After I got home from work I repacked the chests with things we need for Crown Tournament this weekend and did a couple of loads of laundry. I separated the juice from the bag of thawed black currants I brought home from the event this weekend, and put the currants into the dehydrator. Then I took the bag of thawed blueberries, added the black currant juice, and baked a smulpaj of them. There being so much liquid from both berries, I added some rice flour to the liquid before sprinkling on the oat and butter topping. I also added some sugar to the berries and honey to the topping, as these berries were unusually bland.
