Started the day with a little acroyoga with Gilbert, and after breakfast we all went to the Bureå antique and second hand store, arriving soon after they opened at 11:00. (This shop is only open on Sundays, between 11:00 and 15:00. It is in a couple of outbuildings in the yard of the couple who runs it, and they have lots of old furniture and things.) Bryan was specifically looking for something to keep his clothes in, so we decided to bring him here.

He wound up buying a large, solid wood art deco cabinet, we found cabinet that is slightly larger than we really want for the downstairs bathroom, but it cost only 300 kr, so we decided to get it. Ironically, displayed on that cabinet was a very nice wooden box, sized to hold packages of knäckebröd, for 500 kr. (Charlotte bought that.) Gilbert found a couple of things to buy, but I didn’t see them before he needed to hurry on to his parent’s house.

Keldor went to Skellefteham to borrow a work trailer to get the furniture home. While he was gone Bryan, Charlotte, and I continued browsing, and Bryan decided to also buy a little cart with a tile top and racks for wine bottle underneath, that was only 30 kr. He had been wanting something to hold the microwave, to free up counter space, and he couldn’t buy anything that nice new if he tried.

After we got home we went straight into project mode. Keldor cut the remaining large sheet of plywood that has been in the garage, into pieces just small enough to get up the stairs into the attic, so he could continue finishing off the last of the walls in the closets up there. While he did the cutting I quickly took all of the various bits of scrap insulation that had accumulated over the course of the project, and just shoved them over the insulation on the part of the room with a low ceiling. Then I helped him carry up the plywood sheet (which was exactly sized to fit around the corner in the stairway to the attic, if one is very careful and gets the angles exactly right) and got his help carrying the the door we bought last month upstairs to the little room by the kitchen (where it will, eventually be installed), to just stand against the wall behind the piano (as this is the only place in the house it fits without being in the way till we install it.)

Then I took the door frame outside paint it. The door and frame came to us white, and we prefer the look of black windows and doors on the mottled yellow and slightly reddish bricks of the house. As each coat of paint dried I worked on other small jobs here and there, and got the space in the downstairs bathroom cleaned and ready for the cabinet.

By the time the night air outside was getting cool enough that no further paint coats were advisable we were able to bring in the cabinet, put it in place, and see that yes, it can work on the wall between the shower that hasn’t been installed yet and the bathroom door, if the shower wall is installed a bit to the left of what we had previously planned. So we will go with it for now, and we have the unknown amount of time between now and when we install the shower to decide if we should change it out to something smaller, or keep it. Either way, the price of the cabinet is worth it.

So I cleaned it, and decided to paint the very top of the cabinet (which is a cheap particle board, unlike the main body of the cabinet, which is wood painted white) with the same chocolate brown wet room paint that the bathroom wall is painted. I did this in part because that texture fo fake wood holds dust and his hard to clean, and in part because someday there will be a shower in that room, and it may happen that people will shower long enough for the room to become steamy, in which case having that layer protects seems like a smart idea, as it is near the ceiling.

Once that was done I cleaned up a little in the garage, to create a surface where the door frame can sit indoors and let the paint harden up before I find time to do the final coat of paint on it. (The door itself he wants to use the sprayer to paint, so that will need to wait till we have more time for that.)

By then it was 21:00 and I was out of day with which to work, and out of energy with which to do it, so I did my yoga and went to bed.
